Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Engraving by Briony Morrow-Cribbs

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Engraving by Briony Morrow-Cribbs

Our own Amy Stewart is creeping out insectophobes from coast to coast with the release of her latest book, Wicked Bugs and the attention it’s getting from the New York Times:

Ms. Stewart, who grows poison plants in her garden in Eureka, Calif., likes the dark side.

Like the Arab warriors, back in 198 A.D., who hurled pots of scorpions at the Romans. (The scorpions fell into their eyes.)

Or the body lice that tortured Napoleon’s soldiers as they marched across Russia in the winter of 1812, suffering freezing temperatures with little food or shelter. One soldier, maddened by the “unbearable tingling” of the lice, stripped and threw his clothes into the fire. If he didn’t die of exposure, the typhus carried by the lice might have killed him.

Wicked Bugs is on sale now at Eureka Books and bookstores everywhere.

Wicked Bugs by Amy Stewart

Wicked Bugs by Eureka author Amy Stewart

Eureka Books is excited to announce the arrival of Wicked Bugs, the latest book by best selling Eureka author Amy Stewart.

And don’t think we’re biased just because Amy is co-owner of Eureka Books.  This handsome little hardcover is beautifully illustrated by Briony Morrow-Cribbs, the same artist who put her talents to the Wicked Bugs’ big sister, Wicked Plants.

You can come get your copy now, but Eureka Books is hosting the official book launch party with Amy from 6-9pm on May 7th during Arts Alive!  We will also have Briony’s signed, hand-colored prints from the original copper plates used to illustrate the books on display (and on sale) for Arts Alive!

Seabird in the Forest by Joan Dunning

Saturday night is Arts Alive! in Eureka from 6 to 9 pm, and stores will be open late showing art.

Local author and artist Joan Dunning will be at Eureka Books signing her new children’s book about the marbled murrelet, Seabird in the Forest.  It’s a very touching and beautifully illustrated tale about the life cycle of one of the North Coast’s endangered creatures.

Come meet the author and check out Joan’s original paintings from the book which will be on display on the Eureka Books art wall.

Seabird in the Forest is Joan’s latest book on the natural world.  Her previous works include From the Redwood Forest, Secrets of the Nest and The Loon.  She also illustrated the children’s book, Leaving Home.

Great deal on flower prints

January 28th, 2011  |  by  |  published in Books, Prints

Redoutewallflower_184
We've got a towering stack of flower prints by Pierre Joseph Redouté and we're selling them cheap.  These beauties are matted, wrapped and ready for framing.  They're marked at $4 each or 8 for $20.  Our selection is huge, our prices low.  Come see.

If you prefer that your flower art be bound in sturdy hardbacks for page-flipping afternoons spent waiting for the season to turn, you're in luck!  We've got a selection of botanical prints in coffeetable book form, including Redouté. And like the prints, they're priced to move.
